Non 12 Step Detox and Rehab Treatment

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Many people who have been to a drug rehab or detox before and relapsed are now looking for a holistic and non 12-step program. The reason is that in a traditional drug treatment center, the 12 steps are used. The 12-step treatment program teaches a person that their addiction is an incurable disease and that relapse is part of recovery. They also preach that the patient is powerless and has no control. This lowers a persons self esteem and confidence. The problem is when people first enter rehab, they have already “beat” themselves up enough. This also victimizes a person and does not allow for them to take responsibility and gives them an excuse to continue to relapse.

Rehab is not the only holistic form treatment available. Detox is also very important for a person looking for a comprehensive treatment center. An effective oxycontin detox should provide a medical tapering process, which gently takes a person off of the opiate. In conjunction, a nutritional program, which uses vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and a well balanced diet, will speed up the recovery process. Drugs and alcohol burn up essential vitamins and minerals in the body and replacing these is key.

Once the person has been properly detoxed, now rehabilitation can take place. Cognitive counseling and life skills therapy are the most effective forms of treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. This alternative form of rehab can be found in most non-12 step drug rehabs.

Non 12 Step Drug Treatment

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Most people searching for an alternative drug treatment program have experienced traditional treatment before. 12 step rehabilitation centers are becoming a thing of the past in which people are now looking for more effective forms of treatment. Over the last 20-30 years drug rehabs that implement more of a holistic based program and offer individualized care are producing a better success rate. Non-12 step drug treatment is now becoming very popular because it offers a solution to drug and alcohol addiction.

One of the most important aspects to the non-12 step approach is they don’t believe that addiction is an incurable disease. Victimizing a person and making them feel like there is nothing that they can do about their drug problem is one of the worst things you can do to an addicted individual. Teaching a person how to handle life and problems is a common sense approach and helps a person regain critical skills so they don’t need drugs.

Remember when searching on the Internet for drug treatment, make sure that it is a non 12 step rehab. Most of the non-12 step programs have a 70 percent success rate and also offer long-term care. A long-term drug rehab gives the addict or alcoholic the best chance of recovering by keeping them away from friends and family that may have aided in the addiction process. Not all non 12-step treatment programs are in every state, so you may have to travel to find one.
